The 2026 Riyadh Season Saudi Arabia Darts Masters marks a landmark moment for world darts and a defining chapter for Indian sport. For the first time, the World Series of Darts heads to Saudi Arabia, and India will be represented on this historic stage by Nitin Kumar, who competes at the Global Theater in Riyadh on January 19 and 20.

The inaugural edition of the Riyadh Season Saudi Arabia Darts Masters brings together eight PDC superstars and eight leading Asian Tour representatives. Designed to showcase the sport’s expanding global footprint, the event reflects how darts continues to grow beyond its traditional strongholds. India’s presence here is a powerful indicator of that progress.

A heavyweight opening challenge for India

Nitin faces a formidable opening test, drawn against three-time World Champion Michael van Gerwen in the first round. Van Gerwen arrives in Riyadh after lifting the Bahrain Darts Masters title, having already stamped his authority on the 2026 World Series season.

For Nitin, this clash represents more than just a difficult draw. It is another opportunity to compete under the brightest lights against one of the most dominant figures the sport has ever seen. From an Indian perspective, this matchup underlines how far our players have come, now regularly lining up against the very best in the world.

World champions meet Asia’s finest

Monday’s opening round promises a showcase of elite darts. Reigning World Champion Luke Littler meets Singapore icon Paul Lim for the second World Series event in succession. World number two Luke Humphries takes on Japan’s Ryusei Azemoto, while former World Champion Gerwyn Price faces Asian Tour winner Alexis Toylo.

Elsewhere, Stephen Bunting plays Tomoya Goto, Nathan Aspinall renews his rivalry with Lourence Ilagan, and Dutch number three Danny Noppert meets Hong Kong’s Man Lok Leung. Bahrain finalist Gian van Veen completes the round against Japan’s Motomu Sakai.

Two crucial days for Indian darts

All first-round matches on Monday will be contested over the best of 11 legs. Tuesday features a high-stakes evening session, with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final played back-to-back as the remaining eight players battle for the title.

From an Indian viewpoint, attention will naturally be centred on Nitin’s performance. A victory in the opening round would place him into the quarter-finals and mark one of the most significant results ever achieved by an Indian player on the World Series stage. Whatever the outcome, his participation itself stands as a milestone moment for darts in India.

High rewards and global attention

Adding further excitement to the event is a special nine-darter bonus. Any player achieving a perfect leg will earn a 100,000 dollar prize, with the chance to double it to 200,000 dollars through the Riyadh Season bullseye. It is a unique incentive that adds another layer of drama to an already high-profile tournament.

India’s presence on the world stage

The Riyadh Season Saudi Arabia Darts Masters is more than just another international event. It represents darts breaking new ground, both geographically and competitively. For Indian darts, seeing Nitin compete shoulder to shoulder with world champions is a moment of pride and affirmation.

As the Indian Darts Council, we look forward to this historic event with belief and confidence. Nitin carries the aspirations of Indian darts onto the global stage, and his presence in Riyadh sends a clear message that India is firmly part of the world darts landscape.
